American artist Nils Westergard spent this whole summer in Europe to discover new places, settle down in Amsterdam for a little while and leave as much artwork on the streets behind as he could! For Urban Art NOW! Nils wrote a nice “travel report” to document his adventures during the last months. Show’s on for Nils:
I graduated with my BFA in Film, and 3 days later I was on a one-way flight to Amsterdam with some friends of mine to celebrate. They planned on returning; I did not. For a couple we weeks we did the tourist thing and had a blast, I got invited to do a show in London while we were in Belgium. So when we got to London, they did the tourist thing, and I sat in the gallery painting a mural (I had no work with me.)
They left from Amsterdam a little later back to home, which is really where my tour started. I met up with the StreetArtNL crew, and through them the MSC guys, which was fantastic. Then went to back to Belgium to gather my things and work on a print for StreetArtNL. I had been invited to Prague to paint by a school master who was a friend of a family friend, so after a week in Belgium I headed there and painted Gabby. While there I met up with some architects who invited me to a project in Plzen, so with no plans I headed there, and did Brian. I had been in contact with the Bratislava Street Art Festival, and since I was so close I took the hour or so ride across the border and painted Roots there, it was wonderful. I know Gaia through a variety of means and heard he was painting in Vienna, so I decided why not visit and went to watch him paint. While in Vienna I was confirmed for the Livin’ Streets Festival, so I went there and painted Athena while I slept on the floor of some shack with a hilarious guy named Hans. From there I was tired and took my return bus to Amsterdam from Prague.
Had a great time in Amsterdam, went to the MSC farewell jam, and said bye to some new friends. This time I had a gig at the Volkshotel, so I had a room for a week. I later returned to the same hotel to do a wall outside Paco, and one on the bus at Roest (Inga) since they share an owner. But first I went back to Belgium, then did Paris through a wall from C215 (I dont have a good title for this yet), London (Old Habits Die Hard) through GlobalStreetArt, Den Haag with StraatExpo (Connor) before returning to Amsterdam to do those 2, all in a week and a half. So I went back to Belgium to sleep at my grandmothers, but got called off to Ostrava, CZ to do a lecture, workshop, and paint a wall (Taylor.) It was a good time, but exhaustion became too much and I got sick for a bit. I flew back to Belgium, where Im writing you now, and Im working on a print for GraffitiStreet and a commission.
