On the road again… After out great adventure in Munich at Stroke Art Fair we decided to take the orange Urban Art NOW hippy van down to Roeselare, Belgium to check out the DayOne Festival. Organised by the good folks over at Street Art Belgium, DayOne pooled together a group of artists including Daleast, David Walker, Zed1, Jana & Js, and Belgian heroes such as Smates, Oli-B, and Bisser. Furthermore, we had the chance to check out an exclusive joint venture exhibition by Jaune and Isaac Cordal.
Our first stop in Roeslare was the local DayOne hangout Café Dino, where we started the day with some fine Belgian beers. It was an absolutele lovely day, and the first piece we saw, Smates’ diver vs shark, really set the tone for the rest of the festival. We would soon discover that Smates’ piece was just the tip of the iceberg, as we were met at Dino by the man behind the festival, Bjørn van Poucke.
A perivate mural tour by StreetArt Belgium
Bjørn was nice enough to take us on a personal tour, showing us some really impressive murals by the likes of Bisser, Oli-B, Zed1, Jana & Js, David Walker and many others. The blue collar, old industrial feel of Roeselare really made a perfect backdrop for some serious urban art quality, as the works and the town brought out the best in each other.
Isaac Cordal and June expo
Two guys who also bring out some serious quality in each other are Jaune and Isaac Cordal, who rocked an exhibition very close to the festival. Their work is a really great match between the two individual artists, and we were very much impressed by the worlds created for their show. Our video interview with Jaune will be up on Urban Art Now soon.
Best burgers in the world!
We closed our Belgian adventure with some of the best hamburgers we ever had! With our stomachs filled, we headed back to Amsterdam, as we’re gearing up for our Urban Art Festival. Be on the look out for some exclusive video material from the DayOne Festival, as well as many other cool things coming!
