After a year long break, Reflexo on Urban Art (aka R.U.A.) Festival is back in town organising large murals in Amsterdam’s infamous area Heesterveld / South East. 10 years ago, Heesterveld was one of the most dangerous neighbourhoods in Amsterdam but as times change, locations do accordingly. Since a few years the area gets an artistic facelift through muralism and public interventions (R.U.A. 2011, our own SHOUT Urban Art Muralism, Bijlmer Art Route and many more).
But this summer, R.U.A. is going to step the game up by inviting 5 Brasilian artists (Ramon Martins, Onio, Gais Ama, Rimon Guimaraes, Speto) and Amsterdam based talent Ovni to paint complete facades of the Heesterveld housing blocks, different urban objects, tunnels and much more.
Besides creating public art, the festival includes several side-events such as workshops and interventions in the neighbourhood. You can follow their blog to stay up to date. The festival runs till September and we will post the final walls as soon as possible.
About R.U.A. Festival
R.U.A. – REFLEXO ON URBAN ART is an international street art platform, realizing large-scale exhibitions on buildings and objects in public space.
Participating artists are recognized for their unique style and high-level performance or have proven talent that needs international recognition. Depending on the event, they paint huge murals, give lectures, teach in workshops or participate in exhibitions.
Until so far, we have mostly been working with Brazilians, but we are looking forward to go global. With each new edition our aim is to include local artists to the existing team.
