One of the biggest thrills of hosting the Urban Art Festival is giving some of the most refined international urban artists a big piece of wall to represent to the fullest. Even though getting all the permissions in Amsterdam can be tricky, looking at the final results now, it was definitely worth all the hassle.
The festival started out with three murals, three concepts, three teams (Copenhagen, Budapest, Lisbon) – three burner productions! We are currently working on several other big walls for different teams from Amsterdam and the Netherlands to be painted in the summer time.
Team Copenhagen – Cruquiusweg
We hooked the boys from team Copenhagen – Soten, Tiws, Reks, Bomr and Damn – up with a 500 m2 wall in the east side of town. They encourage you to take this purple themed Urban Art ride and enjoy it to the max. Holy Cow this turned out to be fresh wall. Burner after burner after burner…
Team Portugal – Pilotenstraat
Team Portugal – Pariz, Mr. Dheo, ZoerOner and Morta55 – from the south side of Europe, got down in the south side of Amsterdam. The 160 m2 wall in the Pilotenstraat (Pilot Street) sees Mr. Dheo’s character’s hand gesture send the pieces by the other chicos flying through space and bricks. So much flavor…
Team Hungary – Rustenburgerstraat
Team Hungary – FatHeat, Mr. Zero, Trans and Böki – guide a pig over a Trans burner into a cooking pot, serving up some of their famous Hungarian Goulash. Get yourself a bowl of funk from this kick-ass wall, best viewed from the Cinetol terrain in the Tolstraat.
UrbanArtNOW will continue to fight for more urban art in public spaces. Having collected nothing but positive feedback from the neighbors around these walls, we hope they all testify to the uplifting power of our subculture. Big up to all the artists involved!
